Is the Music in You?

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that the music just isn't in me. I think people are either music people and not. My hubby is a music person. He's always singing to himself, making up songs, and is currently learning to play the guitar. Music is just part of his psyche. It's like he's got a continuous life soundtrack playing in his head.

I see people all over the place with ear buds plugged into their head, streaming music into their brains.

I just don't get it. Occasionally I have one of those nasty ear bugs where I get a some jingle or snippet of a song playing a continuous loop in my head, but it's not "music" per se. My inner symphony is silent.

The only exception to this is that I love to sing. I'm a member of the local Chamber Chorale and although I'm not going to be recording albums any time soon, I'm not too bad, either.

But I don't truly understand music. Maybe it's because I'm more of a visual person. I'm more likely to appreciate the depth and complexity of a painting than a piece of music. I would choose reading a book and getting deep into a story over going to a concert. I would buy a movie over a CD.

Some people couldn't live without music, I guess I'm just not one of them!

How about you?

Hmm - I'm kind of like you in a way -I don't constantly have music around me- I never learned to play an instrument, etc... and all those squiggly lines that make up music!eek! When I was in Bat Boy the Musical (I was tricked into it! -my first play since elementary school *laugh*) - I just stared at the music - everyone else knew what they were doing, but me! I just didn't get it...all that music talk.

but when I'm in my car, I love to blast the cd player! And cleaning house, I love to do the same. There's music references in my novel. I understand the way music affects a visceral part of me when I'm listening to it - and I couldn't ever explain why...it's just a mystery!

I am a music person, but it has to be music I like. Some genres of " music " I wouldn't even call music at all. I cant drive in my car without music, but I always put a CD on so I know it's music I like. I never listen to the radio. Strange how folks differ isn't it?
Stay well.

Love my old rock, some soul, and sometimes even Gregorian chant while driving. Nothing better than Aaron Neville while you're driving away to freedom...or a few days away from home. :)

I love music, but I don't have to hear it constantly either...my husband can't drive without music, but I can listen to music or talk radio equally happily.

Well, I got the music in me! But I would rather watch a movie. When I write I often play music, and you would think it would be soft and classical to get those grey cell bubblin, but no. I am usually tapping away with Funk blastin in my ears. I wonder if I would write better if I turned it off? I am sure I would spell better. But if that makes me bad, I don't want to be right.
