Logline/Hook Line Blogfest

I'm tardy posting this, but only because I was at the regional track meet all day!

Bryan over at the Time Guardian Blog was kind enough to host this blogfest today, and since I can't pass up a good blogfest, I've posted my five loglines below. However, I post them with one caveat: I just now wrote them, so they're most likely not agent-worthy!

Anyway, hope you enjoy them and be sure to check out Bryan's site for links to all the other participants!

1. Holly Reed yearns to belong, but when she learns she's half faerie, and the father she's never known is a renegade bent on killing her, the only way she'll be allowed to stay in the fae realm is to accept the protection of a faerie she just met who also claims she's his soul mate.

2. Meeting her soul mate is the last thing on her mind when Holly Reed discovers she's half fae, but his protection may be all that saves her from being killed by her renegade father.

3. Holly Reed isn't the least bit interested in marriage, especially to a faerie who claims he's her soul mate, but when Holly discovers her father is a renegade faerie who wants her dead, marriage may be her only chance to survive.

4. Discovering she's half faerie turns Holly Reed's world upside down, but things only get worse when she learns that her father is out to kill her, and her only hope of safety is to accept the protection of a faerie she just met who claims she's his soul mate.

5. When Holly Reed discovers her father's a renegade faerie out to kill her before he starts a war with humankind, her only chance for survival may be the faerie who claims she's his soul mate.

So which one do you like best?

It's amazing how many different versions of a logline for one novel one can come up with . . . as I'm discovering.

I like #1 and 2 best.

Wow, these were all really good! I liked numbers 1 and 3 the best because they gave off enough information that I understood the plot but told it in a way that really got me wanting more :)

Great stuff ;)

I would def say #3. It gives lots of good info and flows great! But her dad? Oh, heartbreaking - and interesting. =D

#2 was my favorite. The others have more information, almost too much. #2 has all the important stuff in a concise and easy flowing line.

BTW, I still think about that first time Holly enters the world of the Fae. I really hope to read this whole book someday.

3 is fab! I have to say, this is the logline I've been wanting for my work.

Great job -- I now must crawl back to my den and amputate half of my verbiage and still come up with something as clear and engaging as yours.

Brava!

Thanks for joining in the fest!

I really like #2 but, though I'm certainly inexperienced in this,I think #3 is probably better. According to Chris Richman, from Upstart Crow Literary, loglines should be 25 words or less. With that in mind, you might condense #3 a little.

Holly isn't interested in marriage(!), especially to a faerie insists he's her soul mate, but when her father,a renegade faerie, seeks her life, it's marry or die.

that's still a little long (28 words) but I didn't want to take too many liberties with your line. Basically, what needs to be there is: "(who) wants (what) and (_____ stands in the way).
It sounds like an interesting read. Best of luck in publishing.

well, i screwed that up by leaving out an obvious word. stick it in and you have 29.

I think #3 is the best one - it's phrased really well and really cements the plot (at least I think so!) Great work!

I agree with Stina, it is amazing how many different lines you can come up with for just one novel! I think after I posted my five I thought of five more at least!

I definitely like 3 best. It has all the pertinent info (marriage, it seems, is a very important aspect) and manages to stay catchy.
Sounds intriguing!

I liked number three the best with a little revision.

"Holly Reed isn't the least bit interested in marriage, but when she discovers her father is a renegade faerie who wants her dead, it may be her only chance to survive." What do you think?

I like #3 the best--it compelled me the most to want to read more.

Nice job!!!
